Building a house update, 2/23

We went by our house today and there was a lot of progress made. The walls inside are pretty much ready for  trimming and paint, some of our cabinets went in, and some trimming had already been done. Outside all of the siding is done as well as the brick, all thats left is the shakes! It is a very exciting time with the house and wedding, we definitely can't wait to close the end of March.

Scrubbing in for the first time...

So, Friday I was paired up with my preceptor to start working in the OR. We originally had a full schedule, but when we came to work on Friday all of our original cases had been cancelled and our new case didn't start until 2:30 pm (I started at 6:45 am). Since there was nothing for us to do in the morning my preceptor took me down to one of the heart rooms so that I could watch an aortic valve replacement. Originally I was just going to observe from the back, but ended up being able to scrub in. Scrubbing in allowed me to be sterile so that I could stand right next to the surgeon and see the surgery up close. I was even allowed to touch the beating heart, feel the aorta and the thrill in the aorta from the bad valve, and then how the aorta felt after the new valve was in place. It was crazy!!! It was so cool, I couldn't believe I was actually touching a beating heart! I LOVE my job.

Fairview Southdale

As most of you know I started my job on February 4, 2008. I LOVE my new job. The first week was spent doing general orientation for the hospital, but last week I was finally able to step foot into the OR. Fairview Southdale's whole operating room was redone about a year ago and is absolutely gorgeous. Everyone has been super nice and I am so excited to be working there. It was also nice to be able to start with another RN, Briana. She is great and we have been having so much fun orienting to the unit. As part of our orientation, our educator had a write up a blurb about ourselves and took pictures of us to put in the department newsletter. The picture to the left is the wonderful picture that was taken of me. When I showed it to my dad he thought I looked like a cafeteria worker with my hairnet. It may not be the most stylish uniform, but is super comfortable and is provided for me. What more could I ask for?!?

Internet troubles...

I have to apologize for not posting for a while, but our internet has been cutting in and out on us and I am beyond frustrated. Grrrrr!!!

Restoration Hardware

So, as many of you have already experienced, trying to decide what to register for when getting married can sometimes create some conflict when both individuals are somewhat opinionated. Mike and I have been casually looking for registery item such as bedding, bath towels, etc. every time we have gone shopping during the past year. What we found out was that we have troubles agreeing on 2 main things, bedding and dinnerware. We have been arguing over the past year about what kind of bedding we want for our master bedroom, finally coming to a consensus last fall. We found a set at Restoration Hardware and completely fell in love with it. It was such a relief to finally have this item decided upon seeing as it was something we hadn't been able to agree upon prior to this point. Well, now that we are under 6 months we decided that we need to actually start registering for items. We were heartbroken yesterday when we walked into Restoration Hardware and found that the bedding we loved so much had been discontinued. Luckily, we found out that it was on clearance and they had 1 king duvet, 2 king and 2 euro pillow shams still left in the clearance bin. We were very excited that they had just what we needed on clearance even though it will end up sitting in a bag for months and the fact that it cost us $250 (a bargain considering it would have normally cost $650, but more than we had expected to pay that day!). So, I guess we can now check one item off the list of things to register for!
